My Hauntings PART ONE

Updated: Dec 1, 2019

I’ve lived in two haunted houses in my life so far. The first was not as bad, so we will save that for Part Two. Part One is a rental house we combined our family into.

We had just gotten married and rented this 4 bedroom house. When we moved in it was freshly painted and inviting. It was not inviting. It was evil. Here is the story I wrote in my book: Seeded From Evil. (Obviously I changed names to protect the Haunted 📷 )

Out of Darkness

After getting married, Jan and Brett rented a house to blend their families together. They were so excited to move into the subdivision. It had a pool and four parks.

The first week they unpacked and settled in. The upstairs held all four bedrooms and two full bathrooms. There was a master bathroom, as well as a full bathroom in the middle on the left side of the hallway.

Upstairs, one of the rooms was big enough to put three of their girls in twin beds. Lanie, 7, Haylee, 7, and Jordan 4. Down the hall from them, in one room was Damon, 5 months old. In the only upstairs room on the right was Matt, 10.

At the far end of the hall was the master bedroom. It was decently sized and had a walk-in bathroom and closet.

Brett and Jan enjoyed the rest of the summer with their children. They bought a trampoline, went to the community pool and overall enjoyed their new home.

About a year into living in the house is when strange things began to happen. One night, while watching tv late, the couple heard the sound of quick pattering of feet upstairs and down the hallway. At first, they thought nothing of it, as Jordan was scared at night to go to the bathroom. This was the normal sound of her rushing down the hallway to go to the bathroom.

Suddenly, it dawned on both that the kids they shared with their prior spouses were not home. The only child currently home was Damon and he could not yet walk, let alone crawl. Plus, he was in his crib.

Eyes wide, and trembling, the couple gazed at each other terrified. What could be causing such a noise? Uneasily, they went upstairs to investigate.

First, Damon’s room. He was fast asleep and snoring softly. Nothing seemed off in the room either. Next, the hallway and the other bedrooms were searched to no avail. There was no explanation for the noise.

The couple decided to shrug it off and finished their show and went to bed. Nothing further happened that night.

Approximately a month later, Jan was working from home. She decided to go run some errands before the kids came home from school. Upon returning, she found a door wide open to an under the stair’s storage closet, which she had been sure was closed when she left.

She looked around the home to see if someone had broken in while she was gone, but noticed nothing else out of the ordinary. No one was in the home and there were no signs of entry. After a day or two, she shrugged it off.

Nothing happened for about four or five months, and by then, Jan had forgotten about the door completely.

One night, after Brett and Jan and the kids were all asleep, there was a loud and protracted banging on the wall behind their bed. It was so loud and pronounced that they woke up to not only the noise of it, but to the violent shaking of their headboard. Terrified, they waited for it to stop and stared at each other in fright. They wondered if they heard the same thing, or if they had dreamt it. But both agreed that it had happened.

Off to investigate, the only thing on the other side of their wall was their son Damon’s closet. It only contained 2 shirts hanging up and a humidifier on the floor. Nothing had been disturbed. They even checked the crib. It wasn’t touching the wall and was far from the location of the closet in the room. Damon was sleeping softly. What had made the wall shake and bang? Once again, were no answers.

Following that night, it was hard to fall asleep. Jan seemed more affected than Brett by the disturbance. She would wait to fall asleep from exhaustion, uneasy that something might occur. However, again, nothing happened for a while… until her fears had been forgotten.

Two weeks later, Jan was working from home again. After getting back home from running errands, she noticed the door to the under the stair’s storage was open again. This had her very upset. She called her husband at work and told him about it. He tried to calm her by explaining that someone must have left it open or partially cracked and, when the air came on, it must have just opened the rest of the way.

Jan hung up the phone, feeling uneasy and scared. She knew it was not the air kicking on. However, she had work to finish, so she ignored it the best she could.

About an hour later, she heard what sounded like clown music coming from the girls’ bedroom upstairs. She went into the kitchen, grabbed a butcher knife and headed upstairs to investigate.

On the dresser in the girls’ bedroom was a claw machine she had purchased for Jordan. It played the traditional circus theme….”Da-na-nana-na-na-na-na.” Jan was freaking out! It was going by itself. She immediately phoned her husband again. He told her to unplug it. She did.

She begged him to stay on the phone with her while she walked in the bedroom to check on their sleeping son. He did, and Jan discovered Damon sleeping soundly. Jan thanked her husband and ended the call.

Walking down the stairs, she tried the shake the dread and fear. On the bottom step, she heard it again…“Da-na-nana-na-na-na-na.” Her footfalls stopped abruptly. With a look of horror, she peered over her shoulder. It felt like something was staring at her from above the stairs.

With a big gulp, she turned back the way she had just come and went back to the girls’ room. The toy was going off again and again, even though it was unplugged. She turned it over and pulled out the batteries from the compartment. She sighed with relief. The batteries were still in it! Of course!

Nope. Just as she set it down on the dresser, there it was again…”Da-na-nana-na-na-na-na.” She just about jumped out of her skin.

She ran straight to Damon’s room, scooped him up, grabbed her purse and keys and left the house.

So as of now, I have told you about Jan and her husband’s experiences. However, there is much more to this story. The children experienced very odd things as well.

Haylee would wake up at three or four in the morning, every morning. She would feel like something was watching her or standing in their room. In order to get back to sleep, she would have to turn the tv on. Haylee also had numerous reoccurring nightmares.

Lanie would have nightmares often as well. Talking in her sleep was also reported by the girls, although most of her statements were unintelligible.

Jordan would sleepwalk. She often sat on the stairs in almost a trance late at night. Jan and Brett recalled numerous times she calmly came half of the way down the stairs, sat down and just stared at them or straight ahead. She would not blink or reply. Then, after about a half hour, she would stand slowly and would just go back to bed.

Jan began suffering from night terrors. She would have nightmares, wake up paralyzed and see a figure above her or in the room.

Halfway through this haunting experience in her home, Jan also had to deal with the trauma of her biological father committing suicide. He had hung himself. Jan struggled with her grief and the unusual activity going on in the home. It felt like she was losing her mind.

Then, the banging on the wall began again. Again, the knocking was so loud and it shook the headboard and the bed. At that point, Jan was having trouble sleeping at all. In fact, she was terrified to sleep. Something had begun scratching the walls in the bathroom at odd hours and opening random drawers in their bathroom.

I wish I could end this story with a satisfying resolution, but unfortunately, there was none.

After seeing a psychiatrist for some form of relief, Jan was put on anti-depressants and moved out of the house the minute the lease ended.

Her biggest fear was that something had attached itself to her or her family. However, nothing ever happened in her new house again. But Jan often wonders if the new occupants of the rental have experienced anything similar.

I Hope you enjoyed the story. It’s not much of a story though. 100% freaky. So after that rental, we bought a house. The morning of closing they tried to upcharge our GFE. We almost pulled out of the sale. I relented and went through with it because I could not spend another moment in that house. It was driving me insane.
